During the early 1930s, Dorothy Thornhill was fascinated by mythological subjects with two famous examples of her work from this period, Diana Resting 1931 and Neoclassical Nudes 1932, both in institutional collections. The current example Death of Euridyce dates from a similar period and emotively depicts Orpheus' attempts at bringing back Euridyce from the Underworld.
